Essentially, we’re using grant money to fund a mobile bring-the-field-trip-to-you experience, mostly for underserved school districts that may not have been able to afford an off-campus field trip for their students.

Also attached is the “Educator’s guide” for the State Fair this year. We are featured on page 9. We will be a stop on multiple educational tours at the State Fair this year. We will be serving thousands of students this year as a part of these tours. Again, the fair is September 8 through the 18 th .


During the spring, the candidate should plan on being out of town for 3 days per week. From March until the 2 nd week of May, we were deployed at least 3 days out of most weeks.


Technician needed to support the KDHE Mobile Laboratory Experience (MLE) with set up and take down as the MLE goes to various schools around the state as well as support the base laboratory in Topeka with organization and moving of supplies.  Some scheduled travel is required and expenses will be covered by KDHE.  When deployed with the MLE, the candidate would assist with loading and unloading supplies and equipment (television, tables, chairs, etc.). This work would be a combination of indoor and outdoor work.  Candidate may be asked to provide non-technical support to the MLE team such as observing guests, distribute supplies to participants and assist with participant games.  At the base lab, candidate will assist with clearing out offices of documents, old equipment, etc. and packaging/organizing various supporting supplies. 
 
Should be able to follow instructions and also work independently at times.  Expected to be able to see things that need to be done and go ahead and get them completed. Should be comfortable working within a team environment. The candidates personal appearance and attitude should positively represent the state of Kansas when deployed. 
 
  • Ability to work full shift (8 hours + / potential overtime)
  • Frequent overnight trips required
  • Able to load and unload MLE quickly and effectively
  • Work outside at least partially in all weather
  • Follow instructions for installation / tear down
  • Breakdown after the completion of functions and ensure that all equipment and supplies are stored properly
  • Monitors own work to ensure quality
  • While performing the physical demands of this position, associates are expected to observe and adhere to safety and security procedures, promoting a safe work environment
  • Will be trained on how to drive the Mobile Laboratory
  • Frequent overnight travel during the spring
  • Day trip travel
  • Pre-scheduled events for easy planning
  • Stand more than 1/2 of the time
  • Walk more than 1/2 of the time
  • Lift to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Push / pull up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Engage politely and professionally with MLE students/community participants  
  • Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor during MLE events
  • Communicate issues on site to lead/driver/project manager
